Low Dose Allergen Immunotherapy (LDA)
Low Dose Allergens (LDA) is an immunotherapy used to treat all types of allergies, sensitivities and intolerances to inhalants (pollens, dust, mites, dander’s, etc.), foods and chemicals. It is used to treat such conditions as seasonal and perennial hay fever, asthma, food allergies, food sensitivities and a number of autoimmune diseases. LDA is markedly different from traditional allergy treatments as the dose is much lower and the injection response lasts much longer. A single LDA treatment can provide relief for up to two months initially. Most patients report a significant improvement after just three injections, although the treatment becomes more effective and has greater longevity with each successive injection.
LDA helps restore immune tolerance to the environment inside and outside the body.
LDA produces tolerance to allergens at the cellular level using ultra-low doses of allergens and an enzyme. The enzyme (beta-glucuronidase) attracts certain specialized white blood cells (T cells) involved in the immune response and makes them pay attention to whatever antigens are included with the enzyme. The enzyme then causes a down-regulation of only that part of the immune system that is reacting to the included antigens. Because of this enzyme, much lower concentrations of allergens can be used, yet the immune system is markedly desensitized to the allergens. Essentially LDA reboots an overwhelmed immune system, restoring the natural cellular immune tolerance to a complete range of environmental allergens/antigens.
